Possible New Direction?

A strange turn of events. I won a bid for a network design project for a robotics engineering company out of Boston. The project entails an entire network redesign. Upgrading to gig ethernet, new servers and NAS devices, wiki, vpn, chat and a revision control system. Whew! I'll be flying out next week to start the initial setup while waiting for the other stuff to arrive. I've been job hunting for a while without much success but maybe I was looking in the wrong area. Maybe I should be starting me own business instead of making other people rich.

Computing

A common misconception about the Internet is that it is liner, and an organized mass of computers sharing, talking and chatting like a bunch of old friends out to lunch and the idea of anything not working is incredulous. If only. It's more like a ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey.....stuff. And if that Doctor Who reference is lost on you think of it more like a billion retarded orangutans randomly hurling bits and pieces of nonsense at each other over a pit of lava as fast as possible, hoping it gets to the right place. If you don't believe me just do a tcpdump from your external network. If your lucky you'll see some poor lost server trying to find out who he is. So next time something goes funky on YouTube just remember it's a amazing that it works as well as it does.
